The iconic Mt Fuji, the towering symbol of Japan. This active volcano is the tallest mountain in Japan, which you might spot from the air when you are flying into Tokyo airport. Mount Fuji is a sacred site for followers of Shinto, which is Japan’s indigenous faith. Many people who climb the mountain set off at night to try and catch the epic sunrise, which is called Goraiko.

DAY-TRIP FROM TOKYO TO GET MT FUJI VIEWS

To ‘hopefully’ get a good view of the majestic Mount Fuji we recommend going on a day trip from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko.  Here you can find some of the best vistas of the mountain. Kawaguchiko is the location of the biggest of Fuji’s 5 lakes.  You can hop on a tour bus to see the lake and its surrounding sites.

Or, if you are feeling energetic, like we were, hire a bike and cycle the circumference of the lake. You will bike through Kawaguchiko Natural Living Centre.  Here you can witness Mt. Fuji from fields of lavender. Head skywards on the Mt. Kachikachi Ropeway, getting an opportunity to see the glistening lake from above.  Make sure you stop off for lunch next to the lake and try the local and delicious Houtou flat noodles, which are cooked in a miso soup with vegetables.

Want to go right to the summit?

TREK MOUNT FUJI

Climb right to the top of the 3,776m summit of Mount Fuji.  The climbing season is July and August as the mountain is clear of snow. The route up consists of a moon like, rocky landscape, however the success of getting to the very top if rewarded by a stunning view.
