Head down Takeshita-dori Street and you will be immersed in Tokyo’s massive manga and pop culture scene. Need a break from the busy streets? Wander to Meiji-Jingu, Tokyo’s magnificent Shinto shrine. Walk underneath the grand wooden entrance gates (torri) and follow the winding path surrounded by forest. This will lead you to a grand wooden shrine with its copper roof. Take time to relax and grab a mitarashi dango from a nearby kiosk, tasty rice four dumplings on a stick, coated in a sticky soy sauce.

Skyscrapers & Japanese Gardens
When dusk arrives walk to Shibuya crossing, just outside the station. It is a real experience crossing it-follow the flow! We recommend heading up to a restaurant above it, so you can get a real bird’s eye view and some great photos.
In the evening be mesmerised by all the skyscrapers with glowing lights in the Shinjuki district. Look up and try and find Godzilla. Hear all the rattling arcade noise? That will be all the pachinko parlours, Japan's favourite game. Have a go on these pin ball like slot machines, we loved it, even if we didn’t have a clue what we were doing! The atmosphere in these gaming parlours is electric and a real Tokyo experience.

To feel like you are stepping back in time try Golden Gai street. This area had a dodgy past but is now a dimly lit maze of laneways with amazing little bars, some of which can only seat 5 people.
For a break from the skyscrapers catch a train to the Imperial palace gardens. A mix of pine trees, moats, gate houses, castle walls and beautiful Japanese gardens. Beautiful all year round but a must do when it is cherry blossom season.
