Our Top 5 Reasons to Visit Alonissos:
1. Get away from it all
Patitiri is the main port and hub on the island, with its cafes and tavernas. Take a bus or the donkey path from Patitiri to the hilltop village of Chora, with its narrow streets and lovely views. It was the old capital of the island until it was destroyed in the earthquake of 1965, which forced residents to relocate to Patitiri. Climb up to the medieval castle for stunning views and fabulous sunsets. The only other real settlement on the island is the village of Steni Vala.

2. Secluded Beaches
Most beaches are hidden and well protected in bays and located in the South and East of the island. The pristine white sand of Agios Demetrius, with its selection of sunbeds, umbrellas and tavern, or Glifa where you can try watersports, are all waiting to be explored. The pebbly Chrissi Milia offers watersports and diving tours while Spartines is a nudist beach.
3. Walking, hiking & cycling
Look out for hidden chapels when you take long walks and hikes on the island. Ravines, pineforests, oak trees, olive groves and vineyards are all waiting for you. Kouvouli standing at 475m above sea level, is the highest mountain on the island for you to climb.
4. Adventure sports
Scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating tours on the aquamarine sea are all available to you.
5. National Marine Park
Take a guided boat trip to the National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades, the largest protected marine area in Europe. See Mediterranean monk seals and the ancient sunken city of Psathoura.
