Our top 5 Reasons to Visit Naxos:
1. Stunning beaches
Many beaches have soft white sands and turquoise seas. Plaka is the longest beach, ideal for families and is excellent for swimming and watersports. Agious Prokopios is considered one of the best beaches in Greece, and is perfect for families. Agia Anna and Agios Georgious both have cafes and restaurants nearby while Aliko is tranquil and nudist friendly, with white sand backed by cedar forests.
2. Naxos Town (Chora)
Naxos Town is the authentic and vibrant capital of Naxos with stunning Venetian and Cycladic architecture. It’s the main choice for accommodation, entertainment and eateries. Stroll along the main harbour with its array of cafes, restaurants and tavernas and indulge in the delicious cuisine. With narrow streets, gift shops, galleries and museums, climb up to the Venetian castle (kastro) and check out the archaeological museum.

3. Portara...emblem of Naxos
Just outside of Chora, on the islet of Palatia, is the famous Portara structure. Construction began in 6th century BC, probably to honour the god, Apollo. This huge, impressive marble gateway was to an ancient temple that was never completed and is no longer there! Walk along the raised causeway connecting it to the mainland for impressive views, especially at sunset.
4. Hiking and watersports
Naxos is a brilliant hiking destination, with its picturesque interior waiting to be explored... scenic mountains, ancient marble quarries, fertile valleys, olive groves and fruit orchards. There are many tracks and guided hiking tours are also available. For stunning views, hike up the highest mountain in the Cyclades, Mount Zas, in Greek mythology the childhood home of Zeus.
Naxos is generally a tranquil island, but there are watersport activities mainly located at Plaka and St Georgious beaches. Try waterskiing, knee boarding, jet skiing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, windsurfing and kite surfing.
5. Traditional villages
The mountains are home to many traditional villages. Haiki in the north, has a long history with its Venetian towers and a few kms away the oldest and most important church on the island, Panagia Drosiani, adorned with frescoes. At Vallindros distillery, sample the locally produced citron liquor, ‘Kitron.’ Apiranthos has a rich history with its narrow, paved mule tracks and archways, Venetian architecture, marble houses, cafes and tavernas.
