Gaios is the small capital and main harbour with its narrow streets, traditional tavernas, restaurants and most of the island’s shops. Longos on the NW coast is the most exclusive, with lovely eateries offering homemade Greek classics such as Paxos fish stew and Kleftiko, slow  cooked lamb and vegetables.  Don’t forget the local wines produced on Paxos too!

The coves on the eastern side of the island are best explored by boat...self-drive boats are available. In the NE, Andipaxi islet has beautiful Vatoumi and Vrika beaches. The sheltered horseshoe bay of Lakka is popular with the yachting fraternity and offers good food and accommodation.

How about a day trip to the islets of Agios Nikolaos with its Venetian castle and Panagia with its monastery? Or a boat trip to explore the Blue Caves on the west coast, where you may even spot the endangered Mediterranean monk seal?
