Walking & Exploring Paxos

With relatively little traffic, Paxos is wonderful for exploring on foot.

Follow old paths and tracks through ancient olive groves, rolling countryside and traditional villages, either independently or as part of a guided walk. Visit during spring and you can also enjoy the island's wildflowers.

Gaios, Loggos & Lakka

Gaios

Gaios is the small capital and main harbour of Paxos.

Wander its narrow streets, stop at traditional tavernas and restaurants or browse the shops around the harbour before settling down to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

Loggos

The pretty harbour village of Loggos is another lovely place to spend time, with waterfront restaurants and traditional Greek food.

Look out for local specialities including Paxos fish stew, alongside Greek favourites such as kleftiko, seafood and local wine.

Lakka

In the north of the island, Lakka sits around a beautiful sheltered bay and is particularly popular with yachts and sailing boats.

Its waterfront restaurants and accommodation make it another attractive base for discovering Paxos.

Explore Paxos by Boat

Some of the island's most beautiful places are best discovered from the water.

Explore the coves along the eastern coastline, hire a boat or join a boat trip to discover hidden beaches and places that are difficult to reach by road.

On the west coast, boat trips visit the dramatic Blue Caves, another highlight of the Paxos coastline.

There is also the possibility of spotting wildlife around the island's waters, including the endangered Mediterranean monk seal.

Antipaxos & Nearby Islands

A trip to neighbouring Antipaxos is one of the classic experiences from Paxos.

The small island is known for its beautiful beaches, including Voutoumi and Vrika, with wonderfully clear water.

You can also explore nearby islets including Agios Nikolaos, with its Venetian castle, and Panagia, home to a monastery.

Food, Wine & Relaxed Evenings

Evenings on Paxos tend to be wonderfully low-key.

Find a traditional taverna for dinner, enjoy freshly caught seafood and local Greek dishes or settle into a cocktail bar as the sun goes down.

For a memorable sunset, head towards Eremitis, on the island's west coast.

Paxos works beautifully as part of a longer Greek holiday.

With ferry and hydrofoil connections linking the island with Corfu and the mainland, you can spend a few peaceful days on Paxos before continuing your journey.

It can work particularly well as a twin-centre holiday with Corfu, combining Paxos's small-island atmosphere with more time exploring its larger Ionian neighbour.
