Holiday to Magnificent Madeira
Madeira’s year-round sun and sub tropical climate attracts visitors all year. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with a rocky coastline, tall cliffs and spectacular cloud covered mountains at its core.
- Sub tropical climate-good to visit for a winter break!
- Hiking & cable cars.
- Local Cuisine
It is a hikers’ paradise with ‘Levadas’, small irrigation canals to walk along. Originally designed to bring large amounts of water from the west and northeast of the island to the southeast which is predominately drier.
This is the perfect way to explore the ancient Laurissilva subtropical forest full of a variety of different flora and bird life. After a day of hiking, visit Porto Moniz’s natural swimming pools, at the tip of the Northwest side of the Island. These pools were formed by volcanic lava and naturally filled by the ocean’s high tide and large waves.
FUNCHAL-THE CAPITAL OF MADEIRA
Madeira’s capital Funchal, is the heart of the island, named after the wild fennel that grew there in abundance. Visit the hilltop town of Monte, via a scenic 15 minute journey on a cable car with far reaching views. When at the top, take the exhilarating ‘toboggan’ ride back down to Funchal in a wicker sled guided by two men in rubber soled shoes that are used as the brakes! This mode of transportation can be dated back to the 1890’s when an easier and quicker way of transport was needed to travel down the steep roads of Funchal.
Then sample the regional Black Scabbard fish ‘espada’ in one of Funchal’s many restaurants. A local delicacy, although not the most attractive fish to look at!

Breathtaking Vistas
Head to Cabo Girao, offering a splendid viewpoint from the suspended glass platform, Europe’s highest at 580m. Whilst there, ride the cable car down to the beach at Fajas do Cabo Girao, a steep ride that was initially used as a means of transport for the farmers to access the farmlands at the bottom. Try out the wonderfully located restaurant when you brave the journey.
