Paragliding, kayaking, guided canyoning, rafting. rock climbing and hiking for all levels of ability, are all possible in Montenegro, with Durmitor NP a popular destination…you can even ski here in the winter! Cycling along a range of routes and landscapes is also very popular.
3. Unique Culture and History
The Adriatic coastline has a key military and maritime history. Montenegro showcases a mix of cultures, with the area once under Roman, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian rule.
Kotor Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a stunning medieval town with old city walls, cathedral and clock tower. Take a steep hike up to the fortress for breathtaking views.
Fifteenth century Centinje is the old Royal capital, with a National Museum, Blue Palace, monastery and range of art galleries to explore. Lady of the Rocks is an artificial islet made of rocks and sunken ships with a beautiful monastery on it. Budva Old Town dates back 2,500 years and has citadels, churches and Venetian houses. Ostrag monastery is a famous pilgrimage site set within an almost vertical cliff face.
Montenegro’s cuisine offers a unique blend of Mediterranean and central European flavours. Head to the local restaurants or ‘Konobas’ for a range of mutton, lamb, pork, beef and poultry dishes. Sample cerapcici, which is a minced lamb roll. Fish and seafood is more readily available in coastal areas. To drink, try Rakija, an iconic potent spirit.
4. Swimming and sunbathing … with golden and volcanic beaches
The temperatures along the short stretch of the Adriatic coast are approximately 30 degrees Celsius in the summer months. However, the coastal area can get very busy in the peak season of June and July. Budva is a popular beach resort for families with its sandy beaches. Ucinj’s Velika Plazo is a long beach, with areas for all tastes. Why not try some snorkelling or swimming in the Blue Grotto?
Airports
It is possible to fly straight into Tivat. Alternatively, you can fly into Dubrovnik which is 1½ hours drive away.

The temperature reaches around 30 degrees Celsius in the Summer Months. However, it's much cooler in the mountains.
