WHY VISIT THE ALGARVE?
1. Stunning coastline and gorgeous beaches
The Algarve’s pristine Atlantic beaches and rugged coastline suit all ages and tastes. You will be spoilt for choice! From mostly calm, warm turquoise seas in the resort areas to the undeveloped surfing seas on the west coast.
2. Water sports, theme and water parks
Swimming, snorkelling and a full range of activities are available on the calm seas. For surfing, head west to the wild beaches of Carrapateira.
3. Land sports
Over 50 golf courses, many world class, in stunning surroundings. Hiking and cycling are also popular. Go through historic castle towns in the hills and cork oak, carob, almond and citrus groves via Algarviana hiking trail, a 300 km trek in all! The natural park of Ria Formosa stretches for 60 km along marsh and salt plains and is a must for bird watchers.
4. History and Culture
For us, Tavira with its ruined castle and Roman bridge is spectacular, but Lagos and Faro old town are significant too.
5. Food and Drink
You will be spoilt for choice. Try fresh seafood at the coastal locations, piri piri chicken and caldeirada fish stew with local wines.
