WHY VISIT FUERTEVENTURA?
1. Stunning beaches & watersports for all levels
Corralejo is the largest and liveliest beach resort. The town beach is perfect for family fun with its rolling dunes and crystal clear sea. For windsurfing and kite surfing head to the breezier Flag beach and Kite beach. Why not explore the dunes with a buggy tour?
Jandia is a hive for watersports , with excellent beaches and the best waves, often exceeding 2 metres. Take a detour to Sotavento lagoon, home of the yearly windsurfing championships. El Cotillo is a relaxing small village and has excellent surfing, while its lagoons are perfect for children. Or head to Caleta de Fuste, a bustling family favourite.
Escape from the hustle and bustle by taking a 10-15 min boat trip from Corralejo to Lobos Island, a perfect paradise with its hidden coves and lagoons. Only 6sq kms, this island is perfect for swimming, sunbathing and exploring its natural beauty. Playa de la Concha is superb.
2. Hiking & golfing
There are stunning sea cliffs to hike around or head to Pico de la Zarza. This is the highest peak on the island at 807m with stunning views of Playa Cofete. It will take about 2 hrs and has little shade, so head off early taking plenty of water!
Fancy walking up a volcano? Then head to Calderon Hondo. If you want to play golf there are many courses to choose from such as at the excellent Fuerteventura golf club.
3. History & Culture
Betancuria was the old capital, a picturesque settlement of white washed houses. Here the museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and Cathedral are both well worth visiting, despite the winding, challenging drive! The views are excellent.
For another hair-raising drive head to the lighthouse at Faro de la Entallada, the closest point to Africa. The salt museum at Las Salinas del Carmen is also worth exploring. Find time to wander around the capital, Puerto del Rosario. Try to find the 100 sculptures!
