2. Stargazing
One of the best places in the northern Hemisphere for star gazing, be sure to visit the
observatories at Muchachos which perch on the edge of Caldera de Taburiente. At 2,200m above sea level, twice the height of Ben Nevis, it is home to about 20 telescopes, 5 of which are operated by the U.K., and includes the robotic Liverpool telescope. The drive up has many hair pin bends but the views are sensational.
3. Beaches & natural pools
The black sand beach Tazacorte is surrounded by cliffs and has a promenade and
shops/eateries. The biggest beach is at Puerto Naos where the water is generally calm. Los
Cancajos has a small volcanic beach and promenade, or check out the natural ponds and pools at La Fajana.
4. Picturesque traditional towns & villages
The capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma, dates to the 16th century and has beautiful balconied
mansions and houses. Los Llanos, the biggest town on the island, is also a historical traditional town. Why not sample some of the islands famous dessert: Principe Albertos?
The fascinating small village of Poris de Canelaria, with its secret white houses hidden amongst of the rocks of a cave must be on your itinerary.
