Where are the Seychelles?
This archipelago island country in the Indian Ocean, 1000 kms NE of Madagascar, consists of normally 115 low lying coral islands, many uninhabited, but with 3 main touristic islands: Mahe, La Digue and Praslin. The capital Victoria, on Mahe, is the smallest capital in the world and very easy to walk around, with lively local markets and a beautiful botanical garden. Why not try some island hopping by boat or ferry, or a small cruise between the islands?
Our Top 5 Reasons to Visit:
1. Stunning beaches, azul waters and gorgeous sunsets
Mahe, the busiest and biggest island, has 65 unique, varied and gorgeous beaches. Relax on the white sandy beaches of Praslin Island, especially the secluded paradise beach of Anse Lazio, considered to be the best in the Seychelles. La Digue has the iconic and exotic smooth granite boulder beaches which offer endless photo opportunities.
2. Perfect honeymoon destination
The Seychelles were the Royal honeymoon destination for Will and Kate! With waterfalls, mountains, luscious rainforests, palm trees and many quiet, secluded and stunning beaches.
3. Wildlife and flora
There are many unique and endemic species on the island. Endangered species include the hawksbill and green turtles, Aldabra giant tortoises and Seychelles paradise flycatchers. Spot black parrots, bulbul song birds and tree frogs. The Seychelles is home to the native Coco de Mer palm tree that bears the biggest nut in the world!
4. Hiking and Adventure sports
There are many hiking trails of varying difficulties. Hike the coastline from Beau Vallon to Anse Major on the island of Mahe. Morne Seychelles NP has a network of trails and 905m summit to explore. The dive sites at Shark Bank, Port Launay Marine Park are famous. Why not snorkel by Coco Island and La Digue or Bay Ternay Marine Park? Glass bottomed boat trips, kayaking and helicopter rides are also available and you can fish recreationally without a licence.
5. Superb Creole cuisine
Locally caught fresh fish, seafood and shellfish feature highly on the menus, so find time to sample spicy fish or octopus curry often served with rice. Tours are available to the local rum distillery and the local beer, Seybrew, and palm wine offer unique tasting opportunities.
