OUR HOLIDAY TO CANONNIER BEACHCOMBER GOLF RESORT & SPA
Written by Sally Brain
We were looking for tropical paradise and certainly found it!
Where: Canonnier Beachcomber, Pointe aux Canonniers, North-west Mauritius
When: September 2022
Our extended family holiday to this incredible resort in the north of Mauritius exceeded
all our expectations. This luxurious hotel resort is situated on a spectacular beachfront and is one of the few locations on the island which has both fabulous sunsets and gorgeous sunrises. The thatched roofs, swaying palm trees, scented tropical flowers, bougainvillea framing the beauty created an oasis of calm and relaxation. We explored the sandy trails…ponds teeming with wildlife, mother ducks tending their
young, the sound of frogs reverberating in the evening and fruit bats feeding high in the trees.
Natural beauty and nature weaved into your holiday.
The staff in the hotel were warm and welcoming throughout our holiday. We stayed in a duplex apartment with a mezzanie area with views of the tropical gardens. Our clean, spacious and tastefully decorated apartment had everything we could possibly wish for… comfy beds, ample storage, TV, mini bar, safe, bath with overhead shower and balcony.
We loved the comprehensive range of both land and sea activities available, with many unbelievably free to hotel guests. Archery was one of our favourites, with excellent instruction from the leaders and ample time to practise. Afternoon games of mini golf and table tennis kept us on our toes. There are also three tennis courts to play on.
In the protected turquoise lagoon, fringed by coral reefs, swimming and snorkelling were great…we recommend wearing jelly shoes to keep you safe from any sea urchins etc.
Glass bottomed boat trips are free as are boat trips to snorkelling areas. We tried stand up paddleboarding, loved kayaking and used the paddle boats. There was also the opportunity to try wind surfing and water skiing with the calm lagoon perfect for beginners.
For those seeking total relaxation, the spa set around a stunning 200 year old Bunyan tree, offers 6 massage rooms.
Although we had no need to use them, the hotel offers a kids club for 3-11 year olds, and a teens club, so younger family members are fully entertained.
We were spoilt for choice, with our fully inclusive dining option, and recommend this for other travellers. From the time we arrived, till the time we left, we had full access to the tremendous variety of food and drinks. The variety of fantastic cocktails on offer was a particular highlight. Packed lunches were also available for those heading off on excursions.
The resort has 3 separate restaurants, each with unique dining opportunities, three times a day.
Le Frangipanier offers first-class buffet dining with themed evenings. The fish and seafood evening was particularly spectacular. The award-winning dessert section was delectable and time to forget your diet!
La Serenata offers first-class Italian cuisine, while the Navigator is the place to go for Mauritian cuisine, with idyllic sea views. Our steaks were succulent and perfectly cooked. This hotel also offers pancakes in the afternoon if you are feeling peckish!
For those on honeymoon or celebrating a special occasion it is possible to arrange a romantic candle lit dinner directly on the beach…the hotel also offers various wedding packages, with only one wedding held per day, so there is maximum attention to detail.
After dinner, we relaxed with rum cocktails, listening to fantastic musicians and tapping our feet to vibrant Sega performances. No better way to finish an amazing and unforgettable day.
