Mauritius Speedboat Excursion
SPEED BOAT EXCURSION-A FANTASIC MAURITIUS DAY TRIP!
Blog written by Sally Brain.
Do you want an unforgettable outdoor day trip to the picturesque islets off SW Mauritius? We recommend the exhilarating speed boat excursion we took in September 2022 to the largest lagoon in Mauritius.
From the moment we set off, our driver Joel kept us informed, safe and entertained. His infectious sense of humour helped create wonderful atmosphere, and his skilful driving showcased a range of sharp turns and thrills! Fun for all ages! Throughout, he kept a close eye to make sure everyone was enjoying the experience. He also adapted the timing of our itinerary so that we were at stops during quieter periods so avoiding other tourists. From start to finish, he made sure we had refreshing drinks and kept them well topped up!
Ask us about our Mauritius experiences:
FIRST STOP: A CORAL ISLAND
Our first stop was the coral island with its historic, ruined lighthouse. Joel explained all about its important British history, giving us ample time to explore. It was interesting to get closer to the reef (that surrounds most of Mauritius). From here we continued through the turquoise seas and then suddenly spotted a pod of dolphins near the farmed sea bass. We kept a safe distance so as not to distress them but were still able to observe them closely from the boat…unforgettable!
STOP 2: SNORKELLING
We then moved on to a sensational snorkelling area off the coral reef. Snorkelling gear was provided but we recommend bringing your own as there are further opportunities to use it on the trip. The marine life here was stunning.
STOP 3: ILE AUX CERFS
It was then time to head to Ile aux Cerfs (Stag island). This beautiful uninhabited island has its own golf
course and stunning white sand beaches backed with swaying palm trees to explore. Picture perfect paradise! There was time for swimming and snorkelling which were both superb, and the chance to buy souvenirs from the stall holders. The toilet facilities were very welcome too!
LUNCH & WINE IS INCLUDED...
Then it was back on the boat, to a secluded part of the island, to have a sensational BBQ. We had salad, garlic bread, chicken and fish cooked to perfection and barbequed banana for dessert. Fantastic! Lobster was available for an additional cost.
We were entertained by a brilliant quartet of singers and the drinks were flowing…
STOP 4: GRANDE RIVER
Our next stop was to the Grande River with its picturesque waterfall. We saw monkeys and fruit bats high in the trees. We returned and stopped off the Ile aux Aigrettes for a final swimming stop before our return to base. It's a nature reserve, so you are unable to walk on the island itself (without permission), but can paddle around the edge of it.
STOP 5: ILE AUX AUGRETTES
A fantastic day which was the highlight of our weeklong holiday, and very good value too! You can opt for the catamaran tour if you prefer a slower pace of transport.
GETTING THERE
We hired a car and drove from the north of the island to Mahebourg. It took us around 1.5 hours-so make sure you leave early for the trip. A lot of tour operators also provide a transfer option from your hotel, if you don't have a hire car.
