Each offers diverse landscapes and wildlife, with many tourists combining a couple of

MASAI MARA
Probably, the most famous natural reserve is the huge MASAI MARA. ‘Mara’ means spotted and refers to the short, busy trees seen on the landscape from afar. It is easy to access as there are direct flights from Nairobi to The Mara. The savannah plains of the Masai Mara have over 25 per cent of Kenya’s Wildlife, including the ‘Big 5’, (although rhinos can be difficult to spot here), cheetahs and more than 550 bird species.

It is part of the circular and annual migration route which goes through Tanzania’s Serengeti as well. The Great Migration, as it is known, occurs from Mid-July to late August, over several weeks and has various crossing points. Over a million wildebeest and thousands of zebras and giraffes cross the Mara River to find new grazing pasture, but in doing so face more than 3000 crocodiles. It is clear why the Mara River is also known as the ‘River of Death’.
Visitors enjoy the Maasai Communities with their semi nomadic lifestyle, and traditional singing, dance, dress and customs. It is possible to have walking and horseback safaris with
an armed ranger, and you can have a hot air balloon experience too.
