Loggerhead Turtles & Island Wildlife

Kefalonia is also known for its wildlife, particularly the loggerhead sea turtles that visit its coastal waters and nest on some of its beaches.

Visitors may occasionally spot turtles around Argostoli’s waterfront, while protected nesting beaches provide important habitats for the species.

If you’re fortunate enough to encounter a turtle, enjoy watching from a respectful distance without approaching, touching or feeding it.

The island’s forests, countryside and spring wildflowers also make Kefalonia a lovely destination for nature lovers.
