1. Gorgeous sandy beaches and lagoons
With picture perfect, white sand beaches, Mauritius has a beach location to suit all tastes. The northern part of the island has calm seas and sheltered lagoons, while the south coast has larger waves. Flic-n-Flac beach in the west is popular, while Belle Mare in the east is family friendly. All of the island’s beaches are public, creating a unique atmosphere.
Le Morne Brabant Mountain is UNESCO listed, and it’s where runaway slaves once sheltered. Black River Gorges NP has many hiking trails, and more than 300 species of flowering plants. Chamarel is famous for its 7 colours of sand dunes and 100m waterfall, it also is becoming a foodie destination. The Grand Basin is an extinct volcano which is now a beautiful lake. Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere and more than 300 years old.

5. History and Culture
The vibrant and lively capital, Port Louis, founded in 1735, has a rich culture. Check out the Le Cauden modern complex with its shops, restaurants, cinemas and casinos. The market is the place to go to soak up local atmosphere and purchase spices, fruits and souvenirs. Head to the Natural History Museum for information on the island’s history and wildlife. The views from the Citadelle, built by the British in the early 19th century are great. For traditional Mauritian dance and music watch a Sega performance.
