Discover A Fascinating History & Culture in Peru
The history of this fascinating culture is evident in vast areas of this country. The most iconic sight is Machu Picchu, located high in the mist shrouded Andes mountains. Allow yourself time to explore this mesmerising spectacle and learn how it was thought to be constructed. A personal highlight for us was scrambling up Huayna Picchu for the best view of Machu Picchu.
The nearby city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley are full of excellent experiences and archeological gems to visit! Leave room in your suitcase for the artisan craft shops in Cusco and its vibrant market with woollen goods.
There are also many archeological sites from Peruvian cultures that existed before the Incas. Kuelap, the ancient citadel perced high on a limestone ridge, will make you feel like you are in an Indiana Jones film.
Action-Packed Adventure & Wildlife Haven
Do you enjoy being active on holiday? There are so many options in this country. The hikes are epic and breathtaking. There are many around Machu Picchu, including the famed Inca Trail. We braved the Salkantay Trek and were awarded with stunning vistas and a real insight into the mountain villages and the local Quechua population. How about trekking up a volcano? White-water rafting?Dune buggying? Horse-riding? Surfing? We can build a bespoke itinerary around your interests.
Travel to an area where few people visit, the Peruvian Amazon. Here you can stay in an eco jungle lodge, immersing yourself into the sounds of the Amazon. Take part in daily excursions to see the most amazing wildlife. Canoe past endangered Giant River Otters, look up and see howler monkeys swinging in the trees above you! You can even base yourself on a boutique river cruise in the northern region of the Peruvian Amazon. A bird watching paradise. Make sure to admire the spectacle of the night sky here, shooting stars galore.
