What Places Should I Visit In Kyoto?

Start your day by catching a train to Fushimi Inari Shrine; make sure you wear comfortable shoes and take water as it’s quite a climb!  Walking upwards you will pass underneath thousands of bright orange painted torri gates, on the paths that snake up Mt Inari.  Discover smaller shrines en-route and witness lots of fox statues lining the way.  These foxes are believed to be messengers of the God Inari. At many Shinto temples you can buy an amulet that is believed to provide you with protection; here you will find them in the shape of a fox.

Kyoto Holiday

In the evening wander through Gion, the geisha area of Kyoto.  Here you will discover many wooden merchant houses and exclusive restaurants.   Head to Shoren-In and Chion-In temples, which are located very close to each other.  Both have spectacular gardens to explore and will give you an opportunity to take lots of photos.

We can map out the perfect Japanese itinerary for your Japan holiday.

Temples and Monkeys!

Early in the morning, head to the Northwest of Kyoto and the Kinkaku-ji Temple. Here, in the centre of a beautiful garden, you will see the famous Golden Pavilion which appears to be floating on a small lake.  Nearby Tenryu-ji, a Zen Temple which was constructed in 1339. You will come across Sogenchi Teien, a pond garden, which is delightful.  It is kept in pristine condition-just don’t accidently take your foot off the gravel, as you will be told off.

From the gardens of Tenryu-ji you can walk straight into the Bamboo forest.  The bamboo towers all above you, making it a nice place to escape the sun.  If you have children (or just like monkeys) visit the Arashiyama Monkey Park. Over 200 Japanese monkeys live here, and a climb up the hill will give you a great view of Kyoto.
