No trip to Ecuador is complete without a lodge stay in the depths of the magical cloud forest on the slopes of the Andes. This luscious leafy ecosystem is brimming with wildlife, a bird watcher's paradise (there are more species of birds here than in the whole of North America.)
Magical Cloud forest
Birdwatching & monkeys!
Home to over 550 species of birds including the famed Andean cock-of-the-rock and vibrant hummingbirds. At a higher altitude than the Amazon, the cloud forest is underneath low-lying cloud cover for most of each day. Habitat to the spectacled bear, sloths, jaguars, butterflies and howler monkeys. Follow one of the many winding trails past cascading waterfalls, rivers and isolated lakes. Make sure to take your swim gear to cool down in one of the swimming holes.
Feeling active? There are lots of sporting options available here! Trekking, canyoning, mountain biking & rafting. Soar like a bird over the canopy by zip lining over it! An unforgettable experience.
Have a once in a lifetime adventure at Ecuador's cloud forest. Perfect for families with older children, friends and couples. Or, have a honeymoon to remember in Masphi Lodge. Start your cloud forest holiday.
TOP ECUADOR CLOUD FOREST EXPERIENCES
While visiting the cloud forest it is worth stopping off at Mindo, a small town in this mist-shrouded forest region. There are some memorable experiences to have here!
1. Ruta de las Cascadas Hike
This waterfall hike starts off by catching the one of a kind Tarabita cable car over the canopy. You will then be provided with a map showcasing all the waterfalls on the route. The less visited Cascada Reina is off the main route, but well worth visiting. Take your swim gear with you!
2. Visit The Butterfly Farm
Perfect for kids and 'big kids', a chance to witness thousands of beautifully coloured butterflies. Visit when the weather is warm as the butterflies will be at their most active.
3. Indulge your tastebuds on a chocolate tour
Find out how artisan Ecuadorian chocolate is made on a tour. Then, the best bit, sample the sublime chocolate.
4. Spot Hummingbirds
Discover 200 types of orchid at the Armonia Orchid Farm and see magical hummingbirds zipping around.
